SHELTERS – can they make a difference?

SHELTERS – can they make a difference?

In this age of insecurity, if you found yourself suddenly homeless and perhaps penniless – how would you act?

Logically you probably would visit a homeless shelter because shelters operate to help the needy having a bed and food. BUT, what goes on next.same problem next day and the next and the next. Before you know it, on your own esteem is heading for rock bottom. Couch surfing (one of the most dominant form of homelessness) at a mates place is the most common approach as the next step. Unfortunately, some friends manage to shun you within your darkest hour and thus homeless people become too embarrassed to inquire about friends for help.

Homeless Shelters

The following traumatic step is asking the federal government for an emergency handoutThis is generally a very short lived direction to consider and begs the issue, is there a long term solution to this problem?

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Thankfully, yes. Sheltered by Grace is absolutely making a difference. SBG is really a homeless shelter on Brisbanes Southside determined at Waterford.

Sheltered by Grace concentrate on the individual, they do not close the door to a client after they feel, and the client feels they’re ready to enter the private rental market sector as a result of ongoing and extensive support system in place up to that point.

By extending a wide open door policy beyond a permanent stay SBG shows the trust built by the client is truly warranted and secure. This is by far the biggest point of difference Sheltered by Grace must other shelters.

OTHER SHELTERS

Unlike SBG – other shelters are government funded and ought to operate under given guidelines as their funding is at the mercy of those parameters.

Almost every other homeless shelters are not self sustaining models, not easily duplicated and used to be restricted to the industry standard of a 3 month placement only for a needy person, which inturn tended to be very much like a revolving door.

Sheltered by Grace can be a non- profit organization and will not receive government funding. This can be why they count on your continued support. Donate now.

Homeless shelters have become less prevalent today as funding is limited. Some are going into aged care support while there is greater funding available. Shelters

DIRECTIONAL CARE

Sheltered by Grace believe their systematic way of transformation is a sound approach to self – sustainment and essential to the individual wellbeing of each homeless person striving toward rebuilding their lives, as it provides long term results.

To supply such in-depth support is vital to effectiveness and then for this same reason it’s also costly. This is why your support is a lot sought after and very much appreciated.

The way of rebuilding an individuals self esteem and dignity permits the homeless citizen to seriously contemplate the possibility of rejoining businesses as a valued person in the community. This is the ultimate purpose of a truly noble and worthy homeless shelter.

GUIDANCE

One of many problems faced by homeless persons will be the lack of ability to support themselves in everyday survival: things like getting a shower, clean clothes, getting to interviews or doctors, a roof covering over ones head, nutritional and sustaining food within our belly, human company- so we are not alone.

These are things the majority of us take for granted.

This is where proper guidance can support and assist tremendously.

All shelters do provide food, showers and a bed, most shelters provide some clean clothes, sadly merely a very few provide the rest, therefore, the revolving door problem.

Thankfully you may get full case management support (someone walking beside you thru your turmoil, helping you get to medical help, anticipating the next step) someone to help you grow emotionally, standing up with you for your rights, liaising with Centrelink for you, getting you to an interview, simply have a cup of coffee with you and a chat.

This is what our homeless need to get back on their feet properly and permanently. This should be the norm not the exception, would you agree?

3 TYPES OF HOMELESS PEOPLE

Our homeless can overall be categorized into 3 areas.

Those recorded on their luck. If someone else is living on their financial edge. This could happen due to a chain of unanticipated events that befall them. This group is resilient and can generally bounce back.

Some always need assistance. This group, because of the hardships faced and lack of ability to sustain health issues facing them (homeless people take much longer to get over health issues due to their perplexities) – they will need reminders to take medication and a followup service is required.

Some learn how to play the system. We have all heard the expression you can lead a horse to water however you cant make it drink. So true.

The reality is that you just cannot help anyone who is homeless. There are so many worth our help, yet like all areas of our society, there are also some determined to take part in the system, milk it rather than give back.

The government has to find an alternative approach to approach to eliminate the misuse of funds to those who will not co-operate for his or her own good.

FAMOUS HOMELESS

Remarkable people have been homeless. Take note.
